The 5 Key Benefits of Eating Healthy

Most of us know that the biggest benefits of eating healthy are that we will stay physically fit, feel better, and have fewer illnesses. We can lower our risk of illnesses like heart disease and diabetes as well. Another key benefit of eating healthy is being able to maintain a healthy weight. In this age of epidemic obesity, this is one of the simplest weight loss plans.
But how many of us teach these benefits to our children, and insure that the habit of eating healthy becomes a part of their daily lifestyle? If we did, we could see healthier, happier children, and teenage obesity could become a thing of the past. Here are the 5 major benefits of eating healthy every day:
1. Eating healthy is probably the easiest and most important way in which you can keep active and shield yourself from the many diseases that are now common as we grow older, including heart disease and diabetes. By eating healthy you are boosting your energy levels, improving your bodily functions, and helping to improve your immune. By eating a healthy diet and combining this with exercise you could end up leading a longer and more vibrant life.
2. You will meet your daily nutritional needs. Your daily food intake should include some amounts of grain, fruit, vegetables, milk (or other dairy products), beans, oils, and protein. There are vitamins and minerals in healthy foods which can boost your immune system and shield you from many common illnesses. In some cases, by eating a healthy diet you can actually reduce the risks that are often linked with such serious diseases as cancer and diabetes.
3. You will enjoy life more and have more energy to face the tasks before you. Healthy eating can reduce your stress levels. Combine this with daily exercise and you will increase this effect even more.
4. You will sleep better and be more rested when you wake up.
5. If you are currently overweight, you will be able to lose that weight more easily – and maintain it long term! Most people who lose weight with fad diets gain it right back again when they go back to their normal eating patterns. With a healthy diet that you maintain for life, you will lose that weight once and maintain it long term.
Once you implement a healthy diet, you will be surprised at how fast you will start reaping these rewards. The benefits of eating healthy will continue to reward you for the rest of your life.
Dealing With Stubborn People – 3 Proven Ways to Handle Stubborn People

There are many types of people in the world. Unfortunately, the stubborn ones always seem to make up a major portion of the population. Such is the way of life. However, that doesn’t spell the end of humanity. There are effective ways of dealing with stubborn people.
Now, getting around them is not going to be easy at first. But once you get used to the idea, you’ll find yourself being able to effectively deal with the most relentless people you’ll ever encounter in your lifetime.
If you want to learn the ways of dealing with stubborn people, read on!
1) Treat them with patience… and more patience.
First rule of the game is: Don’t let yourself get mad. Dealing with stubborn people can be a huge pain in the neck, but losing your temper will only fuel their stubbornness even more. The more you close in on them, the more they shut themselves off to other ideas.
On the other hand, patience will help you keep your own innate stubbornness in check. With patience, you’ll be able to present your side of the story to them and hear their own opinions in return. Instead of a battle of wills, you’ll have an open forum which can very likely end on a positive note for both parties involved.
2) Be flexible.
A person can be stubborn sometimes because he is defending his ideas. Dealing with stubborn people means having to be flexible yourself.
If the person wants to eat in an Italian restaurant (and that idea won’t really hurt anyone), let that person have his or her way. In a way, you are setting a good example and assuring that person that you are in no way attacking his suggestions.
3) Avoid being rash.
Stubborn people are also usually very sensitive, so you might want to be a little careful with what you say. Reacting negatively to their ideas – without even hearing the rest of them – will only put you in a difficult situation.
If their ideas don’t exactly fly with you, it would be best to let them down gently. Perhaps you could say something positive about their idea first. Tell them that if the situation were a little different, you would consider it. And that unfortunately, that is not the case now because… Yes, use the word “because” as it will unconsciously make them expect a legitimate explanation.
Dealing with stubborn people is just like trying to get along with children. Sometimes, you have to let them have their way. At other times, you need to turn them down gently.
All You Need to Know about Hair Follicle Drug Testing
Hair sample drug testing is a great way to detect whether or not a person has used drugs in the past 90 days. Whether in an office format or in the home, hair drug testing serves the purpose of answering questions about an individual’s drug use history.
How Does Hair Follicle Drug Testing Work?
Hair drug testing is actually quite simple and merely requires a sample of hair in order to be completed. Parents who are worried about their teen’s use of drugs can collect a strand of hair from their pillow. Employers can request a sample from their employees. Once a hair sample has been collected, it is sealed in an envelope and sent to a participating laboratory for completion. Hair testing is fast and more accurate than other drug test forms.
For instance, hair sample drug testing can detect drug use for up to 90 days after use. The detection window is much larger in hair drug testing (compare it to few days for urine and saliva based drug testing) because trace amounts of drug chemicals become trapped inside each hair. A simple lab test can detect these trace chemicals making for either a positive or negative test result. Once the results are recorded, you are sent notification of the results. Some companies even provide a phone service where you call in, enter an account number and retrieve the results in that way.
What Kinds of Drugs Can Hair Drug Testing Detect?
Hair sample drug testing can detect all of the major types of drugs, including marijuana, opiates, methamphetamines, PCP, ecstasy, and cocaine. Hair follicle drug testing can detect the trace amounts of illicit substances trapped in the cortex of the hair for up to 90 days after use.
Employee drug testing programs often incorporate hair follicle drug testing into their plans because of the sheer accuracy of these tests. Even though hair testing is more expensive that a urine drug test kit, for example, they can provide a level of accuracy that is nearly ten times that of other testing methods. Likewise, hair follicle drug testing does not involve the embarrassing collection of samples like that of urine or saliva drug tests. In most cases, a few strands of hair is all that is needed to obtain accurate results.
Parents can also benefit from hair sample drug testing. Hair testing is discrete and confidential. An individual can be tested without their knowledge, making it so parents can know the truth about their teen’s drug use first before making accusations. By using hair drug testing in the home, parents can safeguard their teens against drug abuse, and help them quit the abuse should test results come back positive.

In the case of doctors or medics based aboard oil rigs, it may be necessary to treat patients suffering from a huge variety of ailments and illnesses. Issues can arise as a lot of the workers aboard oil rig installations may speak foreign languages, so it is critical for the medical personnel to be able to quickly and effectively diagnose the problem. Generally medical staff will work one of two shifts, either day or night. Their role can often also include checking and maintaining stocks of emergency supplies, testing and verifying drinking water supplies are clean, as well as inspecting both raw and cooked foods from the kitchen. They are also often responsible for conducting weekly first aid seminars for all workers aboard the oil rig.
A Typical Day In The Life Of A Medieval Castle
Life in the Middle Ages could be very challenging and difficult. But there were many stretches of time when warfare was at a minimum, crops were plentiful, and castles were the homes of Lords, Ladies and large staffs of administrators and servants. Here is an outline of a typical day in the life of a Medieval Castle during these times of prosperity.
A castle was a large organization with a lot of people and a lot of things that needed to be done. This was accomplished with a well figured out system and hierarchy of power and responsibility. At the top of this hierarchy was the Lord of the Castle and his Lady. Under them the responsibilities were broken down into two general groups, the military group and the administrative/domestic group. The military group was in charge of all the day to day training of militia and the daily responsibility of security. The administrative/domestic half of the castle was in charge of the business of the castle and the running of the castle in as far as food, clothing, pay, cooking, hunting, serving, cleaning, and all the other things that go into running a community of people.
The typical day in a castle began with sunrise when everyone would get up from bed and begin their daily routine. The militia would rise and replace the night watch at the castle doors, towers, and walls. And the staff would begin preparation for the day’s meals and chores. Religion was very important to castle life and the first order of business for the day would be a mass in the chapel. Then there would be breakfast; which was usually very light and often just bread and wine.
After breakfast the castle inhabitants would begin their daily assigned functions. The Lord would take meetings regarding diplomacy, trade, warfare, or legal and financial matters. And the Lady would often meet with her guests or pursue her personal projects such as needlepoint. Knights and squires would have lessons in fencing and other martial arts. Children would be given lessons in various subjects including religion. Many other people would be performing their normal morning functions. The grooms would be caring for the horses, the cooks would be preparing the days meals, and the tradesmen such as blacksmiths, carpenters, and masons would all be performing their normal daily work.
Between the hours of ten am and noon dinner would be served. Dinnertime for the residents of a castle was very important and if they had honored guests it could be a very long and festive event. It always begun with a saying of grace then the serving of a variety of foods from pork to beef and different types of vegetables including beans and peas. There would also be fruits like apples and pears. And if the castle was prosperous there could also be rare and exotic foods such as sugar, rice, almonds, raisins, or even pomegranates. During the dinner party, particularly if there were important guests, they would often be entertained by jokes, stories, and music by minstrels and harp players.
After dinner many would return to their daily work but the royalty, guests, and residents of rank would often pursue interesting recreation such as horse riding, archery, hunting, falconry, or the playing of chess and backgammon. This would continue until supper.
Supper would be served in the late afternoon and it usually consisted of a light meal with one or two courses then a sampling of cheese. After this meal the residents of the castle would relax and enjoy conversations or the pursuit of their personal hobbies. In the late evening there was often one last light supper after which everyone would retire to bed early in order to be ready for rising with the sun on the next day.
Life in a Medieval Castle was rich with a lot of different experiences from the doing of daily work, the learning of skills and crafts, the administration of duties to the enjoyment of meals and recreation. When times were good, the community productive and prosperous, it was an interesting, varied and good life.
How To Get A Disney Channel Acting Audition
Kids all over the country dream of making it big in show business. While acting jobs can be hard to land, it is possible to break into this difficult field by answering a call for a Disney Channel acting audition. Many of today’s hottest young entertainers got their start from a Disney Channel acting audition. Though there are sometimes hundreds, or even thousands of people competing for just a few spots, this has been the big break that boosted the career of many performers.
The easiest way to land a Disney Channel acting audition is through an agent. They are made aware of current calls and will have the specifics of the open roles available. It is much easier for inexperienced actors and actresses to get themselves noticed by using an agent than attempting to land these highly sought after roles on their own. While there are ways of getting a Disney Channel acting audition on your own, this is the simplest route.
A great resource that will allow you an inside look at a Disney Channel acting audition listing is the Disney website at http://corporate.disney.go.com/auditions/. Their corporate section has a special page that will let the public know about any open auditions, casting calls, or extras opportunities. While this may not get you the scoop on every Disney Channel acting audition, it can be a foot in the door if you do not have an agent. Check this page regularly to see what auditions are being offered nearest you.
Though winning a part through a Disney Channel acting audition can be difficult, with hard work it is possible. Just take a look at all of the big name celebrities who have become hugely successful after a start on the Disney Channel. Who knows, maybe you could be the next huge success!
Sample Resume Objectives – Good, But Summaries Are Smokin’!
Since college I’ve been told that a resume ought to have an “objective statement” at the top. Maybe you’ve been told the same.
I’m here to tell you somebody’s been lying to you!
Well, not necessarily, but maybe. Every resume has an objective, but not every resume has to have an objective statement. So before you get the urge to search online for sample resume objectives, keep reading.
Every resume has an objective. How you TALK about that objective in the resume is a different matter entirely.
An objective statement simply states your objective. I got a four-year degree so I could make brilliant statements like that. But it’s true, and most of the sample resume objectives you’ll find online are statements of what the job seeker wants.
That’s a mistake. A bad mistake.
A good resume objective statement should tell the reader what the candidate will do for him. Specifically, it ought to tell him what profit the candidate will add.
No, I’m not kidding. Here’s an example of what I mean:
“A highly experienced sales and marketing professional with comprehensive strategic planning and implementation skills, and $27 million in total profit improvement added in 8 years, seeking a position as a Sales Manager where these skills will add similar or greater value.”
Wow! That objective statement screams, “Keep reading!” Do YOU know any hiring manager or executive who would turn his nose up at $27 million in 8 years? I don’t. It’s at least worth talking to you about, which means you’ll get an interview. What if it was only $1 million, or $100,000? Whatever the number, it’s money, and that counts.
And that, folks, is the magic. Everything in the job search process should have a focused purpose, and be done on purpose. The purpose of your resume and cover letter is to compel an interview. A strong objective statement like that can help.
Feel free to start with a sample or three. Just be sure to modify any sample you use. Keep the good and scrap the bad.
But is that the best you can do? Hardly.
I have nothing against objective statements, and you can find some solid sample resume objectives online. My only gripe is that using a solid objective statement is settling for good when there’s a (typically) better alternative.
That alternative is the resume summary. Some might call it a “Profile,” or a “Summary of Qualifications,” or even just “Qualifications.” Whatever the name, it’s a grab-’em-by-the-throat killer. Here’s an example of what I’m talking about:
“Savvy, results-oriented leader with proven success in managing multimillion-dollar software product rollouts to disparate sales channels. Background includes launching a high-productivity expert development team, increasing revenue by $2.5 million and achieving unit profitability within nine months (six months ahead of plan), at Widgets, Inc., with leading technology and feature-rich product releases to meet known demand. Critical thinker and adept negotiator who can apply extensive industry knowledge to profitable vendor partnerships and revenue-enhancing co-branding opportunities. Expertly directs development, technology integration, and customer demand discovery. Published author, and frequent keynote speaker at industry conferences.”
Good grief! If the example resume objective a few paragraphs ago was solid, that summary will leave a reader gasping for air.
Put a summary like that in a resume (with your own qualifications in it, of course), and you’ll almost certainly get a phone call for a job interview.
I can hear you saying that whoever has the summary you just read can walk on water. What about lowly old you? Here’s what I used on my last resume, and I wasn’t a high-powered executive either:
“Results-oriented software developer and consulting project manager with six years’ experience at Big 5 firm. Experienced OO developer with particular expertise in Java and Extreme Programming (XP). Over seven years’ experience developing software and managing projects in challenging, fast-paced consulting environments. Demonstrated ability to acquire technical knowledge and skills rapidly. Innovative problem solver, able to see the business and technical sides of a problem. Proven leadership, negotiation and problem resolution abilities. Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written. Published author and conference speaker.”
See? That summary needs some improvement, but it shows mere mortals can do it too. That means you can.
A powerfully stated objective statement makes your resume pop. A powerfully stated summary makes it a thermonuclear explosion. Most others in the resume pile (and there’s always a pile) have objectives that translate into “get a job.” Then you come along with a Sherman tank summary. They’re dead meat.
Make no mistake, job search is war. Powerful summaries give you an advantage.

What Makes a Good Role Model? 7 Characteristics that Make a Real Impact
Role Models are people who others imitate, emulate or look to for guidance. There are good role models who inspire greatness in others and bad role models who are what we call “bad influences.” There are even anti-role models, pegged by the media as “bad girls” or “bad boys” who serve as good examples of what NOT to do if you want to become a successful, respected person.
Every parent wants their children to have positive role models who have the characteristics that inspire them to want to be (and become) their very best. While there is some variation in every parent’s definition of what it means to be a good person, the following 7 characteristics remain constant.
Positive role models;
(1) Model positive choice-making: Little eyes are watching and little ears are listening. When it comes to being a role model, you must be aware that the choices you make don’t only impact you but also the children who regard you as their superhero. Someday, they will be in the same predicament and think to themselves, “What did s/he do when s/he was in the same situation?” As a role model, you can’t just “talk the talk” and tell others to make good choices. You must put them into action yourself.
(2) Think out loud: When you have a tough choice to make, allow the children to see how you work through the problem, weigh the pros and cons, and come to a decision. The process of making a good decision is a skill. A good role model will not only show a child which decision is best, but also how they came to that conclusion. That way, the child will be able to follow that reasoning when they are in a similar situation.
(3) Apologize and admit mistakes: Nobody’s perfect. When you make a bad choice, let those who are watching and learning from you know that you made a mistake and how you plan to correct it. This will help them to understand that (a) everyone makes mistakes; (b) it’s not the end of the world; (c) you can make it right; and (d) you need to take care of it and be accountable right away. By apologizing, admitting your mistake, and repairing the damage, you will be demonstrating an important yet often overlooked part of being a role model.
(4) Follow through: We all want children to stick with their commitments and follow through with their promises. But as adults it can sometimes be difficult to demonstrate follow through when we’re tired, distracted, busy, or overwhelmed. To be a good role model, we must demonstrate stick-to-itiveness. That means; (a) be on time; (b) finish what you started; (c) don’t quit; (d) keep your word; and (e) keep going even if things get difficult. When role models follow through with their goals, it teaches children that it can be done and helps them adopt an “if s/he can do it, so can I” attitude.
(5) Show respect: You may be driven, successful, and smart but whether you choose to show respect or not speaks volumes about the type of attitude it takes to make it in life. We always tell children to “treat others the way we want to be treated” and yet, may not subscribe to that axiom ourselves. Do you step on others to get ahead? Do you take people for granted? Do you show gratitude for others? It’s often the little things you do that make the biggest difference in the way children perceive how to succeed in business and relationships.
(6) Be well rounded: While we don’t want to spread ourselves too thin, it’s important to show children that we can be more than just one thing. Great role models aren’t just “parents” or “teachers.” They’re great learners and challenge themselves to get out of their comfort zones. You may be a father who’s also a student of the martial arts, a great chef and a treasured friend. You may be a mother who’s a gifted dancer and a curious photographer. When children see that their role models can be many things, they will learn that they don’t need to pigeon-hole themselves in order to be successful.
(7) Demonstrate confidence in who you are: Whatever you choose to do with your life, be proud of the person you’ve become. It may have been a long road, but it’s the responsibility of a role model to commemorate the lessons learned, the strength amassed, and the character developed. It’s true; we can always improve, however, children need to see that their role models don’t suspend their confidence until they achieve “one more win” or “lose 5 more pounds.” We must continue to strive while being happy with how far we’ve come at the same time.
While it may seem like a great deal of pressure to be a positive role model; nobody is expecting you to be superhuman. We certainly wouldn’t expect that behavior from the children who are looking to us for guidance
